21st Annual Mid-Atlantic Chevelle Show
ACES North East Regional (Page 3)
At dusk we were supposed to have a movie in the park, but Fred got a call that
the projector was having issues and it was not going to happen. On to plan
B. Plan B? There’s always a plan B! Bob Wilcox made a call back to the
hotel and they set us up with a wide screen TV and DVD player in the breakfast
room. Nothing was going to stop us from seeing the old classic “Smokey and the
Bandit”. After the movie it was back to the parking lot for some more
bench racing before we turned in for the night.
Again during the night we had a little rain. Not
a problem! By the time we woke up, the streets were dry and it was on with
the show. This is a rain or shine event, and the MCC gets it done... rain
or shine! As judging was on Saturday only, when the participants arrived
this Sunday morning, it was basically an open field for parking. Everyone still
had to park in rows, and the parkers had to do no more than just try to keep the
field even. Those that wanted to park together, just had to arrive
together.
One of the most interesting cars of the weekend was registered as a ‘68, but
looked like a ‘69. Seems it started life as a a 4-door ‘68. (above is the
“before”). It’s simply amazing...what started as an idea, some creative
engineering and finally a whole lot of hard work...boom!..a great final result
(right picture is the “after”). Upon close inspection, it was very obvious
that no detail was spared on the making of this fine automobile. Kind of looks
like one of those die cast Muscle Machine cars you see in the stores. All
that is missing is one of the humongous blowers sticking out of the hood. I bet
you already guessed...this car was picked for the “Best of Show”. Guess we
know what we can do with some of those unwanted 4-doors now!
The last seminar for the event was by the man himself,
Chuck Hanson. This year Chuck talked about “Chevelle Documentation” and
the importance of such. As is always the case, the seminar was standing
room only!
Eventually all good things must come to an end. When 3 o’clock rolled
around, Fred made the announcement it was time for the awards. With the
assistance of VP Don Gray, the winners were called up, one class at a time.
A few more BIG door prizes and last, but not least, the special awards were
presented. It was time to call it a day.
With 20 more cars rolling in on Sunday, the final tally came to 158. Gas
prices and the “uncertain” economy did not seem to have much affect on our show
turnout. Under the guidance of our new Prez, another successful show was
now in the books. Job well done Mr. Prez, job well done!

Hambleton for the use of their pics in this article.
